Ohio
K9 Search Team was founded in 1990 and became operational
in 1991. This unit has participated in more than 150 searches since its inception
and is regularly lauded for the level of professionalism it maintains.
The Ohio K9 Search Team is capable of preparing (on-site) detailed topographical
maps of any search area in Ohio. Our team establishes its base of operations,
coordinating between the requesting agency and our dog teams. All teams deployed
consist of a dog, dog handler, and field support personnel proficient in radio
communication, map reading and navigation and the use of global position system
(GPS) units. Ohio K9 conforms to the Incident Command System structure.
Ohio K9 Search Team works collaboratively with other proven dog teams across
the state and can request deployment of additional teams through the Ohio Federation
of K9 Search Teams as needed.
Benefits
When time is of the utmost importance, a dog team can make all the difference.
A dog team can search an area in the same amount of time that it would take
24 people. Our dogs can effectively search day or night on land and help locate
submerged victims. Ohio K9 dogs train in all kinds of terrain and search effectively
in wilderness conditions, to urban environments.
